Hundreds of needy Cincinnati families got a Christmas meal this year, thanks to the efforts of St. Vincent de Paul.
People began lining up before sunrise on December 22 to make sure they could receive food for Christmas. Even though it was raining, more than 600 people were in line, and were happy to wait.
Those who received food from St. Vincent were grateful, and said the food meant a lot, and made a real difference in their lives. Melissa Bolware said the meal was a “big blessing,” because many people are hungry, homeless, and going without necessities.
Although St. Vincent de Paul's warehouse looked chaotic as the food was distributed, the effort was very well run. Dozens of volunteers sorted and packed the food for meals that fed about 900 families in the Cincinnati area. Volunteers also helped distribute the food, carrying meals to people's cars, and taking time to talk to them. Will Johnson, one of the volunteers, said people seemed to appreciate having someone to talk to.
Demand for the holiday food was substantial this year, with all meals distributed within two hours of the time the doors opened.
To increase awareness of the holiday meals, St. Vincent's could work with a postcard printing company on a card for area Mailing, describing the distribution. Get a Free Quote for Mailing
