Items from Cincinnati Gardens to go on sale

The Cincinnati Gardens, a sports and entertainment venue that is now 67 years old, has been sold to the Port of Greater Cincinnati Development Authority, which is expected to demolish the skating center and main arena.

Port officials expect to start demolition early in 2017, and hope the site will be ready for development later that year.

While the arena may be fading into history, not all the memories are going with it. Collector Dave Greene has been accumulating Gardens memorabilia for the past 36 years, and now plans to offer many of these items for sale.

Some of the items Greene gathered over the years were displayed in shadow Boxes mounted in hallways in the main arena, while others were put in the ‘Legends Museum’ in the Gardens. He had programs from bands like Mötley Crüe, Iron Maiden, and Bon Jovi, and a hockey stick Garth Brooks had signed. Other collectors' treasures include a 1954 Governor's Cup trophy and a warmup jacket once worn by Walt Wesley of the Cincinnati Royals.

Greene is working with Everything But The House, an estate sale operator based in Cincinnati that works over the Internet. The items are expected to go on sale later this month or at the beginning of September.

In situations like these, participants can benefit by working with postcard printing companies, which can create mailers for wide distribution.
