A country outfit that hit the charts their first time out is coming to Cincinnati.
Diamond Rio has an unusual history. They were put together in 1982 to perform at Opryland USA, a now-closed theme park that operated in Nashville, Tennessee, from 1972 to 1997. The founding members were Matt Davenport, Ty Herndon, and Danny Gregg. After line-up changes, the current members have been the same since 1989: Dana Williams, Dan Truman, Brian Prout, Jimmy Olander, Gene Johnson, and Marty Roe.
In 1991, after the membership stabilized, the group released the single “Meet in the Middle” as Diamond Rio. The song shot to No. 1 on the Billboard Hot Country Songs charts, making Diamond Rio the first band to accomplish this feat. Their debut album, “Diamond Rio,” continued their winning streak, putting four songs into the Top Ten, and winning an RIAA Platinum certification. A review says:
“So many good songs and still performing as they did many years ago. I highly recommend seeing and hearing Diamond Rio.”
Mo Pitney is also performing. A country artist, he has a background in bluegrass and has released two albums to date. In the first week of release, his first effort, “Behind This Guitar,” landed at No. 10 on Billboard’s Top Country Albums.
Diamond Rio and Mo Pitney will be at the Taft Theatre on Friday, January 6. Programs are important to audiences at events like these, which organizers can create using brochure printing.
