On October 28, the United Way of Greater Cincinnati announced it has exceeded its 2016 fundraising goal, which it had set at $62.1m.
Leaders of the organization said the money raised will go to a number of projects, including preparing 15,000 people for in-demand jobs, increasing home visit support for 3,000 more families, and enabling people to increase their participation in quality preschools.
United Way of Greater Cincinnati's president, Robert C. Reifsnyder, said the success of the campaign is a great example of the way people in the community come together to help others in the area, in some cases changing their lives. He also noted that United Way is dedicated to helping people live healthier lives, getting children off to a good start so they achieve academic success, and helping families become financially stable.
The fundraising drive began August 24, and area businesses made significant contributions to the effort. United Way recognized the Vora Group as the top new business to participate this year, while P&G held onto the top spot.
Ted Torbeck, CEO of Cincinnati Bell, led this year's fundraising drive. Torbeck, like Reifsnyder, expressed his appreciation for the support shown by the community, especially those who increased their contributions this year.
