Black Stone Cherry is from Edmonton, and formed officially in 2001. Two of its founders were Chris Robertson and John Fred Young, who is the son of Richard Young of The Kentucky Headhunters. Young and Robertson were joined by Jon Lawhon and Ben Wells, and began recording in the house The Kentucky Headhunters once used. They got their career started by playing local clubs, building a following.
The group released their debut album, “Black Stone Cherry,” in 2006, then returned to Edmonton to play for homecoming. The event drew 1,500 people, and when the band got to town, they were met by people in the streets holding Signs that said “Welcome Home.”
Over the years, they have released a number of EPs, live albums, and studio albums. Of the studio albums, “Magic Mountain” (2014) and “Kentucky” (2016) both made it to No. 1 on the U.S. Hard Rock charts. They have also toured with stars like Whitesnake, Def Leppard, and Nickelback.
One review says:
“Black Stone Cherry are at the point where they can play over ninety minutes of “best of” material.”
