Patrons of Lyft or Uber will be able to get their ride more easily and safely now, thanks to the creation of ride-share zones in Cincinnati's downtown.
The city's Department of Transportation & Engineering (DOTE) has finished installing rideshare zones in nine different spots throughout The Banks, Over-the-Rhine, and the Central Business District. The largest zone is approximately the size of one city block, and each of the zones has a dedicated area inside it where passengers can be picked up and dropped off. This will give those who use rideshare services dedicated areas to drop off and pick up passengers in one of the most congested areas in downtown – the Cincinnati Bell Connector route.
Outside of these three areas, rideshare services will continue to operate as they have in the past, stopping outside the special zones.
DOTE's director, John Brazina, said the creation of the zones reflects the city's desire to improve mobility and safety in the downtown area. He went on to say that the renaissance of the downtown area of Cincinnati has led to increased congestion, as rideshare services jockey for the same space at the curb.
Bright green and blue Signs designate the new zones, which are in operation at different times on different days. Information can be found on the DOTE website, and flyer printing can be used to create mailers for residents, explaining measures like this.
