The Cincinnati Reds are planning to add LED video boards both inside and outside their home field, the Great American Ball Park. According to a May 29, 2015 news article, the team already has plans to add a second LED board inside the stadium. The new board, which is manufactured by Daktronics, is an LED video board measuring 30 by 90 feet. The board will be installed above the sun/moon deck in right field.
At present, when the stadium is full, about 7,500 fans can't see the scoreboard. The second board will solve the problem. Construction on the new board is set to begin almost immediately. The Reds anticipate having the new LED board in place before July 14, the date of this year's All-Star Game.
In addition, the team wants to install a similar, but smaller, video screen outside the park, on the facade of the Reds Hall of Fame and Museum. If approved, the sign, which is approximately 19 feet high and 32 feet wide, would be a permanent installation. The Reds' CFO Douglas Healy wrote to the planning department, asking the city to approve a special ordinance to allow the screen to be installed. Healy said he believes it's important for the team to keep up with technology that can benefit the area near the ball park.
The Reds could work with a flyer printing company on a handout explaining the benefits of the smaller screen, and asking community support.
