Cincinnati looks forward to April musical

A new musical will be playing in Cincinnati this spring.

Jimmy Buffet's “Escape to Margaritaville” is based on the singer's hit “Margaritaville,” which he released in 1977, and which won him an induction into the Grammy Hall of Fame in 2016. The new show has a book by Mike O'Malley and Greg Garcia, with Buffet himself adding the music and lyrics.

Set on the island of Margaritaville, the show is the story of Tully, a singer and bartender who spends his off-hours charming the well-do-do women who come to the island. Tully has gained a reputation as a ladykiller, and his charm means he can get out of almost any trouble he lands in. Then a single woman arrives, but she is a dedicated career woman who does not fall for Tully. He, however, falls in love with her, and wants to win her before she leaves.

The romp has had some fun reviews, including this from “Time Out New York”:

“'Escape to Margaritaville' revels in its own goofiness. It's not trying to be paradise; it's fine with being a cheeseburger.”

“Escape to Margaritaville” runs April 14-19 at the Proctor and Gamble Hall at the Aronoff Center. The curtain rises at 7:30 pm on April 14, 15, and 16; on April 17 at 8:00 pm; on April 18 at 2:00 pm and again at 8:00 pm; and at 1:00 pm and 6:30 pm on April 19. Poster printing can provide colorful advertising for events like this.
