Tucker's Restaurant, a local landmark in the Over-the-Rhine neighborhood since 1946, is getting set to open its doors again, but needed some help from its friends.
The Cincinnati restaurant held a fundraiser to help pay for rebuilding both the building and the diner it houses, which were damaged in a fire last year.
The diner is owned by Joe and Carla Tucker, who have shown a tendency to help their neighbors during their time as owners. When the business had to close due to the fire, the result of these efforts was that their friends wanted to help in return.
Volunteers from the local business community teamed up to devise a plan for the Tuckers, and people from development, construction, and marketing offered their services free of charge.
They held a brunch on February 28 where people could see the remodeling plans, and enjoy some of the Tuckers' food, which they will not be able to get again until the place reopens.
Among the favorites on the menu at the brunch were biscuits and gravy, grits, and a Big Tucker cheeseburger.
Tucker's hopes to reopen its doors on July 25. The owners might consider working with a postcard printing company to devise a mailer for neighborhood residents, updating them on progress and asking them to save the date for the reopening.
