Medicare patients may soon benefit from a new test, and the test's inventors stand to benefit as well.
Assurex Health of Mason, Ohio, has developed a genetic test for depressed people, and this has just been approved by Medicare. The decision will allow the company to add scores of new employees, thus creating jobs in the areas in and around Cincinnati
Approximately 52 million Americans have Medicare as their insurance, and the new test would allow physicians to determine which treatments and medications might be best for them to prescribe for their Medicare patients affected by depression. Medicare patients who have Part B coverage would not have to pay for the tests out of their own pockets. Nearly all American seniors have Medicare coverage, with about 15% of the total, or 6.4 million, affected by depression. About half that number, or approximately 3.2 million, could benefit from the test.
The test is known as GeneSight, and analyzes a patient's genes to determine how they might affect his or her response to commonly-prescribed medications used to treat mental health conditions like depression. The test could potentially save Medicare, and taxpayers, millions of dollars, by insuring that people who battle depression are given the appropriate medications to begin with. Savings could be as much as $2,500 per person annually.
Assurex could work with brochure printers to create Booklets that describe the decision and the positions that will be opening at the company.Get a Free Quote for Booklets
