Rockville Centre to nurture kids interest in nature

Even though it may seem quiet and peaceful, the winter landscape is still an active place, and Rockville Centre’s Center for Science, Teaching and Learning (CSTL) will introduce families to the joys of a cold weather walk.

Parents and kids alike are united to bundle up and join in the Winter Hike and Scavenger Hunt, and it will be an activity that seeks to make learning fun. The registration fee is $10 for an event suitable for kids who are at least one year old.

To help encourage the participants to explore, they will receive a list of scavenger hunt items. As they tick off their finds, they will discover the many ways local plants and animals have adapted to survive the cold. The whole family is encouraged to take part, and social distancing and masks are required.

Kids are often fascinated by nature, and offering an event like this is one way to nurture their interest. Stationery printers will be able to provide printed lists of scavenger hunt items for the occasion, and they can even be laminated so that they can be used over and over.

The CSTL will be welcoming families for this afternoon of chilly exploration on January 30. It will begin at 2:00 pm, and parents can register for the activity through its website.
