Recently, a ranking of the best New York state communities in which to start a business was compiled, and among the several Long Island communities high on the list was Rockville Centre.
NerdWallet, an information service for personal finance, looked at 83 New York locations with a population of 10,000 or more. Using criteria such as the business climate and economic health data derived from the U.S. Census Bureau, NerdWallet has placed Rockville Centre eighth from the top of the state’s best places to start a business.
A rating such as this attracts new businesses as well as residents, and it benefits many existing small businesses such as business card printing companies.
Commonalities among the cities highest on the list are the presence of a college or university in or nearby the city. The majority of the top 10 locations share this trait, with many containing campuses of the State University of New York.
Another common denominator for being rated well is being situated in Nassau County or alternately in the Mid-Hudson Valley. Both of these areas are booming. Nassau is home to three and the Hudson Valley four communities in the top 10.
Rockville Centre’s rating benefited from it being a Nassau County community, a mere 30 minutes from Midtown Manhattan, and the presence of Molloy College. Additionally, the town has a median annual income of $85,248, which is higher than most of the other locations on the top 10 list.
