Residents in Rockville Centre are clearing their tattered, well used Books off their shelves in anticipation of Valentine’s Day Book Decor. Sponsored by the Rockville Centre Public Library, the event is aimed at putting some new life into those dusty old pages.
The lesson is a book craft workshop, meaning participants should not bring Books that they intend on reading again. The pages of the Books will be pressed, folded, cut, and shaped, creating a work of art that has a literary flair. Many different types of decoration are possible with Books, including centerpieces, wall hangings, and shelf displays. The only limitation is the imagination of the crafter.
The workshop will be led by Liz Arcoleo, who will supply the participants with a love-themed quote, scissors and glue, and a lot of guidance. She will demonstrate some basics on book decor to get started along with a couple of finished examples. From there it’s up to the guests to turn their well worn Books into a well loved decoration.
The Valentine’s Book Decor workshop will be held on January 31 starting at 1:30 p.m. at the Rockville Centre Public Library, located at 221 N. Village Ave. The cost for the event is free, but pre-registration is required. More information as well as a complete calendar is available in the library’s newsletter printing.
