Mixed-use development proposed for Melville

The Town Board of Huntington has approved a special use permit for a mixed-use development in Melville.

This development will be called Cornerstone Melville and will be east of Maxess Road and centered on the north side of Baylis Road. The project is to be part of a larger effort to reshape the town of Melville and to transform an area south of the Long Island Expressway.
This development will have 168 residential units. Workforce housing will comprise one fifth of the units. The approval by the Town Board of this project was applauded by the Huntington Township Housing Coalition, a primary advocate for the project. The Coalition said that this means that over 30 affordable apartments at below market rates will be provide additional options for housing for seniors, young adults, and families.

The organization said:

“Our Coalition was proud to advocate for this proposal because we believe Huntington must continue creating more housing opportunities for people at different stages of life and income levels.”

The project will also offer restaurants, spaces for offices, and retail space. H2M architects + engineers are the architects for the project, Hayduk Engineering is the engineering company, and Terwilliger & Bartone Properties are the developers.
