Melville to host garden tours

The Long Island Daylily Society (LIDS) welcomes their members and guests to join them on a tour of numerous gardens located throughout Melville, New York this July.

The Fun in the Sun event allows those interested in gardening to explore three gardens in addition to touring through the Planting Fields Arboretum. Guests will be treated to four complimentary meals while participating in the tour, including a buffet dinner and auction on the first day of the event. On the following day, attendees can enjoy a sit-down banquet while the guest speaker, Gil Stelter, hosts a business meeting and program.

LIDS is a branch of the American Daylily Society, which was founded in 1946 and has grown to have over 5,000 members. The nonprofit organization educates the public about daylilies while encouraging more gardeners to grow the plant in their gardens. There is a quarterly journal the society distributes to members containing information about daylilies. Companies can pay to advertise in the journal, perhaps featuring their Logo Design for readers to view.

The Fun in the Sun event will be held on July 19 and 20. The fee to register for the tour is $200 per person and $150 for youth members. Those who wish to join the organization on the trip must register by July 1. Checks must be made payable to the Long Island Daylily Society.
