The 80th Central New York Scottish Games and Celtic Festival will be returning to Liverpool in mid-August.
Clans and societies will be among the guests enjoying the ethnic activities. Children will be able to enjoy games geared to them, and live entertainment will include harpers. Scottish food such as Cullen skink (thick soup of smoked haddock, onions, and potatoes), Scotch eggs, stovies (potato stew), and rumbledethups (potatoes, cabbage, and onions) will be available for purchase. Guests are invited to dress in their ancestral clan’s tartan kilts or buy them from Celtic-themed vendors.
Competition in traditional Scottish strength events such as caber toss, tug-o-war, weight for height, shotput, and hammer throw will be the highlight of the event. Other competitions will include solo piping, Highland dancing and drumming, and pipe bands.
Stationery printers often use pictures of Highland dancers in their international notecard sets.
A session of musicians will be playing traditional Irish instrumental tunes like slip jigs, reels, hornpipers, polkas, and jigs. In between sets of three or four tunes, musicians will sit around and chat.
Adult tickets will be $12, youth tickets are $8, and seniors pay $10. Patron admission will be $40 and includes one adult admission, preferred parking and seating, meet-and-greets with performers and guests, lunch, beverages, and snacks. Patron admission for two will be $75.
The games and festival will take place Saturday, August 12 from 9:00 am to 8:00 pm at Long Branch Park.
