Runners don ugly sweaters for good cause

Liverpool runners will be digging out their old ugly sweaters for the upcoming Syracuse 7th Ugly Sweater 5K coming in a few days.

Registration will be $42.50 and ends November 26.

As one of the races in the Dick’s Sporting Goods Family Fit Series, the event will have excellent swag including red, white, and blue long-sleeved racing shirts sporting the Ugly Sweater 5K graphic design, matching earmuffs, jingle bell bracelets, and finisher medals with miniature replicas of the long-sleeved festive holiday shirt.

The post-race party and awards ceremony will be at the Barking Gull. Race participants will receive discounts on drinks and free food.

Prizes for winners in the Ugly Sweater Contest will be awarded for Best in Dress, Most Unique, and Most Creative ugly sweaters.

Some of the proceeds from the race will go to St. Johns Community Services. Race attendees are asked to bring winter clothing like coats, boots, mittens socks and hats or toiletries such as combs, tooth brushes and tooth paste to give to the charity. A truck will be parked at the location to accept the donations.

Monetary donations are also accepted. Event organizers are hoping to raise $4,000 for the charity.

The event will begin at the Wegman’s Playground, at Onondaga Lake Park, 106 Lake Drive, November 21 at 11:00 am. The event should end around 3:00 pm.
