Locals to have a monstrous good time at race

Residents in and around Liverpool can participate in a Halloween-themed race.

Monster Scramble 5K and 10K will begin and end in the Oakwood Cemetery. Along the way, there will be more than a few scares in these chip-timed races.

There will also be a one-mile family, trick-or-treat walk through the older parts of the cemetery. The course is made up of loose stones, gravel, and sections of grass.

Participants are encouraged to wear costumes, and there will be a costume contest with prizes too. Prizes will also be given to the top fundraisers, along with the top male and female finishers overall and in each age group.

On race day, 5K and 10K registration costs $25 or $30 respectively. The first 500 to register before race day will receive an event shirt. One-mile registration costs $5, or $10 on race day. Participants are also encouraged to take part in fundraising efforts. Proceeds from the event will go to help the National Multiple Sclerosis Society Upstate New York Chapter.

Flyers are often used to get the word out about local races. Brightly colored handouts can be distributed in high-traffic areas throughout the community.

The race kicks off on October 11 at 10:00 am. Registration begins at 8:30 am and awards will be given out at 11:00 am.
