Liverpool will be the location for the Onondaga Cup and Lakefest coming next month.
The free daylong regatta will feature rowing, paddleboating, and kayaking competitions along with an onshore gala of activities.
The regatta will be the first celebration since Onondaga Lake’s reopening. It will also be Central New York’s first race of this type. For example, the final races will be at night with athletes and watercraft decked out in LED lights.
As soon as the event opens, round one of the competitions will begin. A Boat Parade will feature antique water craft, Tory the Mermaid will take a swim, and Rabbit in the Rye, the Joe Whiting Band, and Los Blancos will be providing music.
Shore side, food trucks will be selling beverages and food. Venders will be offering boating-related merchandise. A kids’ zone will have an obstacle course, bounce house, and inflatable activities.
A special guest will be the world’s largest rubber duck, which will be stationed at the start of the races. The duck weighs 22,000lbs and rises about 60 feet in the air. Festival attendees will get the chance to vote for her name from a list of 10 options.
