Liverpool goes green

St. Patrick’s Day is coming, and Liverpool revelers will excited to see this year’s 36th annual St. Patrick’s Day Parade.

This year’s theme will be ‘Dublin Down in the Emerald City’. The theme commemorates a special day for two reasons, as the parade will celebrate Syracuse, known as the ‘Emerald City of New York’, and its association with Ireland as the event actually will take place on St. Patrick’s Day.

Co-Grand Marshalls for the parade this year will be Bill Gooley and Ed Riley. Gooley. A local real estate broker, is known for his humor, wit and occasional Old Irish traditional blarney as a storyteller, wordsmith and scribe. Riley is a founding partner of a local real estate development company that restored the Marriott Syracuse Hotel and is currently restoring the Niagara Falls Hotel.

There will be six divisions. The line-up will begin with the Connacht entries and then the Grand Marshal Division. After the Grand Marshal Division will come the Project Children (Wee) followed by the Leinster, then the Munster, and finally the Ulster Divisions. Units will need to get their banner printing done before the end of the month or in early March.

The parade will be March 17, starting at noon and disbanding around 4:00 pm. The route will begin at N Salina Street and W. Genesee and proceed through downtown Syracuse along South Salina Street and end at the intersection of South Salina and W. Onondaga Street.
