Liverpool bowls Irish-style

The 2025 Helen Windhausen Irish Road Bowling Commemorative Event will take place in Liverpool this March.

Local volunteer Helen Windhausen’s contributions helped establish the competition in the region. Participants and volunteers are encouraged to continue her tradition of community involvement.

The event is a sport with roots in Ireland dating back more than three centuries. Combining elements of golf, bocce, and bowling, it challenges players to hurl a 28-ounce cannonball across a two-mile course. The objective is to finish the route in the fewest throws. Groups of four will be competing against one another.

The registration fee is $140 per group of four. To purchase tickets attendees can visit the event listing.

Poster printing can be used by the host to provide attendees with game rules for events such as this one.

The event will take place on Sunday, March 16 at 10:00 am along the Shoreline Walking Trail at Onondaga Lake Park, 106 Lake Dr, Liverpool. Check-in will begin at 9:30 am. The first teams will start playing at 10:00 am. Once the event has concluded, participants can attend a gathering at Limp Lizard, which will featuring a free buffet and door prizes.
