What's Happening in Hewlett, NY…

Veterans and military given chance to stay active

A new Lifetime Leisure Passport will be made available to veterans of Nassau County, so that they can use the recreational facilities in the area.

The pass will cost $25 and provide discounts to skating rinks, pools, tennis courts, and beach facilities, which the Nassau County Department of Parks, Recreation and Museums operates. County pools will be free to active duty military, along with their spouse and children, and they only need proof of valid military identification to enjoy these benefits.

Nassau County Executive Edward P. Mangano said that as veterans and military families have given so much of themselves for our country, it is only fitting that the County shows its gratitude for their service. Hopefully they will enjoy all that the County has to offer in terms of recreation for many months and years to come.

Presiding Officer Norma Gonsalves echoed the sentiment that this is one small token of the County’s appreciation for what veterans have done for the nation.

There are 11 application centers in the County at which veterans can apply for these passes, one of which is in Hewlett at Grant Park at the administration building. Most likely, the Department has turned to several printing companies to print flyers and mailers that can be sent to veterans informing them of this special opportunity.
