Slumber parties going to the birds
The Long Island Aquarium is offering a unique opportunity for families later this month.
Hewlett families should get ready for a short road trip to a family sleepover event with the children in mind. For one night only, the staff at the Long Island Aquarium in Riverhead will open its doors to overnight guests that want to spend some time learning more about the penguins living at the facility. The event is designed for school-aged children, but everyone is welcome.
Penguins and Pajamas will include a presentation about penguins, hands-on activities, a free dinner, and a continental breakfast the following morning. Guests will experience the novelty of sleeping next to the massive 120,000-gallon shark tank, near the octopus aquarium, or next to the Best Buddies tank.
Tickets for the event are $64.95 each with a discount given to aquarium members. All children aged two and under are admitted for free. Only 100 people will be admitted, so early planning is advised.
Area businesses can get in on the event with some aquarium-related promotional products or seaside posters advertising their own fun summer events. The warm summer weather is likely to create a good atmosphere for an ocean-related promotion
The aquarium is based at 431 East Main Street in Riverhead. Those interested can call (631) 208-9200 to reserve tickets or find more information.
