Nassau County museums to engage kids during winter break
Several museums within a short driving distance from Hewlett will be offering discounts to children and their families during the upcoming school vacation.
At the Cradle of Aviation Museum and Education Center, movie tickets at the IMAX Giant Screen Dome Theater, and admission to its Planetarium and the Museum, will be discounted by 50% percent for children.
The Museum will also be hosting its Engineers Week by commemorating the 530th anniversary of Leonardo da Vinci’s ornithopter, with exhibits about the engineering process and prominent engineers throughout history.
At the Old Bethpage Village Restoration, the Museum of American Armor will offer half-price admission for children. The Museum celebrates those American who have served the county in the armed forces and who continue to do so today. Among its collections are artillery, tanks, weapons, and armored cars from World War II.
Finally, there will be various crafts and activities at the Garvies Point Museum and Preserve in Glen Cove during the week. Some of the crafts include making a bird feeder, a beaded pouch, and a winter nature’s craft. There will also be games relating to the Northeast, Native Americans, and the Southwest. Short films to be featured include ‘Puffin Adventures’, ‘The Legend of the Boy and the Eagle’, and Plants and the Cherokee.
Poster printing used by the several museums could help to promote and generate enthusiasm for these events.
