High school student business plans receive accolades
Three local teams of students will advance to the National Business Plan Competition, which will be held next month at Microsoft in Manhattan.
Hailing from Hewlett High School, John F. Kennedy High School in Bellmore, and Westhampton Beach High School, the trio recently presented business plans for proposed startup companies to a panel of judges at American Portfolios Financial Services in Holbrook, and came up winners from a group of seven semi-finalists.
According to founder of RightFinancialAdvisor.com, Richard Cross, who was also one of the judges at the round, the quality of the work was impressive. He commented that even though the students are only in high school, one might believe that they hold an MBA. Cross added that they had worked hard their business models and exuded a great deal of energy at their presentations.
Local partners of the competition included American Portfolios Financial Services, which is offering internship opportunities, and LIU Post, which will be providing scholarship offers to the finalists.
Some of the sponsors of the local competition included Nassau BOCES, Career and Technical Education Technical Assistance Center of New York, both Eastern and Western Suffolk BOCES, and Capital One Bank.
Poster printing is one way that these schools can inform their communities of their accomplishment and garner enthusiasm as they prepare for the next round.
