Hewlett-Woodmere School District named among best in the country
Hewlett parents can rejoice in knowing that their children are attending what is considered to be one of the top 50 school districts in the United States.
Niche.com, an online company that ranks all educational facilities in the nation, bestowed the high rating on the school district in its latest report. The company uses poll responses and reviews, public statistics and student grades to determine who the leaders are around the country each year. It is not unusual for Long Island districts to score well in these surveys, and Hewlett-Woodmere has been mentioned repeatedly in past studies undertaken by the website.
The district ranked 44th in the nation and 13th in the state in the Niche.com survey, showing New York to be generally strong in terms of its school districts.
Hewlett-Woodmere currently has approximately 3,300 students enrolled in five different schools that include classes for students in pre-K through 12th grade.
The district was established in 1898 by the New York Legislature, and has received a number of other awards, including having Hewlett High School listed as one of the Top 25 High Schools in the state by Newsweek Magazine. Additional honors include faculty member Jared Pitelli being named as Outstanding Teach of the Year, six National Merit commended students, and one semifinalist for the National Merit Scholarship Program in 2012.
