Hewlett to learn about bird-friendly landscaping
Hewlett-Woodmere Public Library offers learning opportunities for all, and one on the upcoming agenda will be focused on providing a welcoming home to the area’s feathered friends.
The “This Place is for the Birds” web-based presentation will investigate how choosing the right plants and other cultural considerations can create an attractive space for birds. It will be geared towards those who live on Long Island, and the Theodore Roosevelt Sanctuary and Audubon Center’s Joyann Cirigliano will be the facilitator.
The activity will show how, by carefully selecting the appropriate native plants, property owners can have a space that is both welcoming to wildlife and also aesthetically pleasing to the human crowd. The importance of proper plant care and maintenance will be discussed, and everyone can ask any questions they have. The session will be on offer using the Zoom web platform.
More people are taking the environment and wildlife into consideration when they plan their outdoor plantings. Stationery printers will be pleased to prepare plant lists, gardener's cheat sheets of tips, and other materials that can help them to invite nature into their landscape.
This introduction to the benefits of choosing native plants will be offered on Thursday, June 6. The start time for this online activity is 2:00 pm, and it is expected to last about an hour.
