Hewlett residents welcome fall with a county fair
The 36th Annual Queens County Fair is a popular local tradition at summer’s end.
The return of the fair includes a variety of carnival rides, live entertainment, and competitions. Locals can take part in blue ribbon contests for arts and crafts, garden products and livestock.
Other contests include pig races, pie eating, and corn husking. There will be live music throughout the weekend. Bands include the German group, Spitzbuam, an Irish band, Shannon Breeze, as well as the Savannah Sky Country Band and Something Special Big Band.
The family-friendly fair offers something for everyone. Kids will enjoy the pony rides, petting zoo, and free crafts for kids at the ecology booth. There will be a beer garden for adult guests to cool off and relax and plenty of food vendors for everyone. Live acts include jugglers, acrobats, and colonial cooking and medieval combat demonstrations. An ecology booth from ConEdison is passing out unique promotional products that include recycling tips and a worm adoption for home composting.
Admission for the day is $5 for children ages 3 to 12, and $10 for everyone 13 and over. Children ages two and under get in free. The ticket fee includes entrance to the Amazing Maize Maze and admission to view all competitions and demonstrations. Other activities, food, and carnival rides include a small fee. All transactions at the fair are cash only. An ATM is on site.
The fair is September 22 and 23 from 11:00 AM to 6:00 PM. The Queens County Farm Museum is at 73-50 Little Neck Parkway in Floral Park. Free parking is available during the event by entering Little Neck Parkway at 74th Avenue. The lot opens for fair visitors at 11:00 AM.
