Hewlett martial arts school to teach self-defense techniques

Mind-Body-Spirit Martial Arts will be holding an instructional course at the Hewlett-Woodmere Public Library this December to teach tweens and teens about self-defense.

The Stranger Awareness Self-Defense Class is a program designed by Mind-Body-Spirit Martial Arts to help protect young people from harmful strangers. The instructors for the course will teach attendees about how to recognize dangerous scenarios through the use of live skits. The purpose of the program is to teach students how to be more aware of their surroundings while showing how to use martial arts to defend themselves from harm should it be necessary.

Social situations that will be covered during the class include what to do when being asked for directions by a stranger, and the proper way to handle being approached when children are playing outside. Organizations that provide lessons like this can use poster printing to create ads for local schools and community centers.

Mind-Body-Spirit Martial Arts teaches many styles of fighting, including judo, taekwondo, and aikido. Their goal is to bring traditional martial arts into modern society. The organization also teaches defense courses to women throughout New York.

The Stranger Awareness Self-Defense Class will be held on Monday, December 2 from 7:00 pm to 8:00 pm. The program is provided to the public for free, though those who are interested can register online in advance.
