Hewlett families to enjoy nature make and take
A Hewlett area activity will teach kids how to make winter a frosty yet fun season.
Hempstead Lake State Park’s field 1 will be welcoming families for an afternoon of hands-on learning. There will be no charge for the event, as the fees have been waived as part of the celebrations that mark the opening of the Environmental Education and Resiliency Center.
Lasting an hour and a half, the session will see youngsters prepare a simple pinecone birdfeeder, and while they are working, they will be able to learn more about their feathered friends, including how they have adapted to survive the cold. It will be focused on species found in the local area, and it may even spark a lifelong interest in nature and the value of being good environmental stewards.
Many parents may be scrambling to find child-friendly activities for the holiday season. Organizations and businesses that have offerings in the works can count on area poster printing companies to aid in raising awareness of a particular event and when and where it will be held.
Homestead Lake State Park will be offering this nature based make and take event on Sunday, December 19, and it will begin at 1:00 pm. Reservations are required and guests are advised to sign up soon as only a limited number of slots are available.
