What's Happening in Hewlett, NY…

Hewlett area workshop to help beat winter chill

Winter is in full swing, and a Hewlett area activity will help attendees warm up in the season’s chill in a unique way.

The Brooklyn Botanic Garden offers public workshops all year, and in February, it will offer guests a chance to partake in a session that will prepare “fire cider”. This beverage has a long history, and the attendees will learn both about this, and how to prepare a batch to take home for themselves.

This fiery tonic is often made from warming ingredients such as ginger, cayenne pepper, and apple cider vinegar. Guests will discover how to incorporate this unique beverage into recipes ranging from salad dressings and condiments to soups, and they will all be able to get hands-on experience in creating it themselves. Both members and non-members are welcome to join, and the ticket price starts at $32.00. A materials charge of $20.00 will be levied at the time the passes are purchased.

Taking part in a workshop can be a creative way to beat the winter doldrums. Handouts and other learning materials for a session can be crafted by local stationery printers.

The team at Brooklyn Botanic Garden have made plans to bring traditional fire cider into the 21st century on February 14. The activity will begin at 2:00pm, and its registration system can be accessed by visiting the venue’s event listing online.
