Hewlett area workshop to go native
Hewlett gardeners are gearing up for another growing year, and those on hand for an upcoming workshop will be ready to create plantings that will welcome pollinators of all kinds.
Governors Island will be rolling out the green carpet for spring's arrival by hosting a day dedicated to native plants and the pollinators they attract. It will be taking place in the venue’s Bee Sanctuary, which is an initiative of The Bee Conservancy, and a native plant specialist will be on site to answer questions.
The activity will introduce a variety of pollinators that call the area home, which will include bees, butterflies, moths, beetles, birds and other creatures. Boxes for both ground and cavity netting species of bees will be demonstrated and there will be a discussion of how plants and pollinators evolved together. The function will be held outdoors, and everyone should expect to get their hands dirty.
Gardeners are often eager to learn new skills and share the ones they already have. A class offers them an opportunity to do this, and a flyer printing company will be happy to help get the word out about an upcoming activity.
The Governors Island Bee Sanctuary will be giving pollinators their time in the spotlight on Sunday, May 7. Its registration system goes live on Friday, March 24.
