Hewlett area workshop planned for parents-to-be
Families expecting a baby can participate in a Hewlett area workshop at the end of the month, and will go into the experience of parenting armed with knowledge to help make the process easier.
The course will provide tips for labor and delivery that the participants can use both at home and in the hospital. Accommodations may be available, and requests for this will need to be submitted ahead of time.
The group will discuss how breathing patterns, body positioning, and other techniques may be helpful for dealing with pain, and other comfort tools such as acupressure and aromatherapy may also be explored. Focusing and the use of mantras will be reviewed, and the birth partners in the session will be taught an assortment of ways of providing support. Everyone will go home with a printable checklist they can use to make sure they have everything they will need.
A prenatal class can help to take some of the fear out what is an exciting but oven nerve-wracking occasion, and will also give parents confidence in their own ability to manage the situation. Copies of handouts for activity are just one of the items print shops can prepare for an event.
This workshop has been scheduled by the Brownsville Neighborhood Health Action Center to take place on Wednesday, March 29, starting at 5:30 pm. It is located at 259 Bristol Street Brooklyn, and the organizers can be contacted by email at stull@health.nyc.gov.
