Hewlett area site offers Earth Day activities
A Hewlett area celebration of Earth Day is seeking some helping hands, and the event will celebrate the area's history of farming.
A day of volunteer service will see members of the community head to Queens Farm for an Earth Day celebration. It is one of the state’s longest sites to have been continually farmed, and the helpers will be able to learn more about this while they give the site some TLC.
All ages are encouraged to roll up their sleeves and pitch in with the project. They will help to sift compost, place mulch around tender plants and beds, weed, tidy up the Children’s Garden, and perform other tasks. To thank them for coming out, everyone will be treated to a beekeeping presentation, learn how use worms to produce compost, and take part in a scavenger hunt. Hay rides will be on offer for $5 per person.
Many people would like to get involved with environmental stewardship but may to know how. By hosting a green-themed project day, a site can help them to get started, and a printer will be able to prepare special promotional products to hand out that have been printed with a not-for-profit group’s logo design.
This Earth Day clean up at Queens County Farm Museum will show the site some love on April 22. There are three different start times to choose from.
