Hewlett area residents invited to empowerment conference
WE LEAD: Empowering Our Girls Conference is an upcoming one-day event to help celebrate the 40th anniversary of the Malik Melodies Sisterhood, Inc. (MMSI), as well as to celebrate the United Nations International Day of the Girl Child.
The MMSI is a nonprofit organization, founded in 1978. The group works to help women find their motivation and determination as they become leaders. Their efforts include addressing the specific regional social and professional environments that hold women back from achieving success.
The attendees will be those that work in their communities to encourage change. Among those expected to attend are local and corporate leaders, and mentors as well as students and community volunteers. The event includes music, refreshments, and live performances. Raffles for a variety of prizes will also be taking place.
Attendees can meet local politicians and others that work to ensure that human rights extend to both genders in all parts of the world. People and groups working towards these efforts should do some brochure printing to help share information about their own achievements and efforts.
An awards presentation will close out the conference. The ‘Gems Among Us’ award will honor individuals and organizations that have stood out in their empowerment efforts.
Registration prior to the event is required, but there is no fee to attend. The conference will take place at the Jamaica Performing Arts Center at 153-10 Jamaica Avenue, in Jamaica, New York on October 13 from 10:00 am to 4:00 pm.
