An annual Hewlett area event celebrating the life of Richard Allen Pearlman and other 9/11 heroes will soon be making its return, and all those who enjoy hitting the road on two wheels are encouraged to take part.
This year will see Run for Richie take to the pavement to mark the 23rd anniversary of 9/11. The staging area for the ride will be the parking lot at the Flushing Meadows Corona Park Boathouse, and it is being hosted by the NYC Punishers Law Enforcement Motorcycle Club. This not-for-profit group has a membership made up of former first responders and military personnel. So long as they require a DOT Motorcycle license, all vehicles are welcome to join in the procession.
As a member of the Forest Hills Ambulance Corps, Richie was one of the first responders on 9/11. He was working at a law firm, but headed to the Twin Towers on foot so he could help. A commemorative challenge coin with a special graphic design has been created in his honor for those who pre-register for the activity. Limited edition numbered coins have been made available.
The 2024 Run for Richie will hit the road on Saturday, September 21. Kickstands will go up at 11:30 am. At the time of writing, spaces were still open, with tickets costing $50.
