What's Happening in Hewlett, NY…

Hewlett area clinic to teach new crop of anglers

Anyone who has always wanted to give sport fishing a try but has never had the chance to do so may want to secure their spot in a local Fishing Clinic.

Hewlett area residents are welcome to participate in the Hempstead Lake Summer Fishing Clinic, and it is on offer thanks to support from a variety of not-for-profit organizations. It is being organized by the state's Department of Environmental Conservation.

The attendees at the function will learn how to get started at fishing, and a variety of basic techniques such as preparing and baiting the hook, casting, reeling in fish, and “catch and release” will be discussed. They will be introduced to an assortment of equipment, angling ethics, and freshwater and marine ecology. Participants are advised that while a license is not required, all the other applicable regulations will still be in effect. The contact person for the occasion can be reached at 631-444-0283.

Introductory clinics and workshops give the public an opportunity to try their hand at a new activity without any obligation or the need to purchase equipment. Copying services for an organized function will be available at area stationery printers.

Hempstead Lake Park is scheduled to give newbie fishers a chance to get their feet wet on August 6. It will start at 10:00 am, and there is no fee being charged to the public.
