What's Happening in Hewlett, NY…

Far Rockaway library gets a new lease on life

It was recently announced that funding for a new Queens Library at Far Rockaway, which is located a short distance from Hewlett, has been received and the project is moving forward.

The cost for the library will be $29.75m and it is expected to open in late 2019. It will be built on the site of the current library, but be twice its size so as to reduce the noise that was prevalent in the old one, allow in more light, and enable expansion for the future.

The entrance will have a carved out triangular corner covered with transparent glass so that people can see all three floors on entering the space. More natural light will be able to penetrate to the ground floor within the interior by means of an inverted atrium shaped like a pyramid. Patterns will be featured on the glazed glass surrounding the building, with different colors and variations that will be reminiscent of the sky off the Long Island coast.

The library will meet the new FEMA flood zone guidelines. The architectural firm will be seeking LEED Silver Certification, as the hope is to reduce power consumption by bringing more light into the building.

Most likely officials from all levels of government are turning to a flyer printing company to print flyers with detailed information about the features, services, and timeline for construction of the new building.
