What's Happening in Hewlett, NY…

Calling all Hewletts everyday heroes

Summer can be a busy time of the year, but Hewlett’s everyday heroes will still be able to help save a life.

The New York Blood Center will be running a pop-up blood drive, and while walk-ins may be accommodated if time and space permits, appointments are preferred. Everyone who would like to make a donation will need to bring a photo ID.

When they arrive at the clinic, donors will be greeted, asked some questions, and then undergo a basic health check. Both whole blood and double red cell contributions are welcome.

The event will be collecting donations from mid-afternoon until late evening. Everyone is advised to eat and drink before they arrive, and after the blood collection process, they will be able to rest and enjoy a light snack before they head for home.

The blood donation system is often a real lifesaver, helping everyone from premature babies to seniors. To thank those who take part, the clinic organizers will be providing each with a box of Girl Scout cookies. A poster printing company may prove to be a helpful partner in generating public interest in an activity.

The Hewlett Woodmere Public Library is set to see the public roll up their sleeves for this community activity on Thursday, August 3. Appointments can be booked from 3:15 pm until 7:45 pm.
