Growing a veggie garden can be a fun way to introduce kids to the joys of raising their own food, and an activity planned for the Flemington area will teach youngsters how to get growing.
The horticultural workshop planned for Blooms at Belle Mead Garden Center will teach kids some of the basic principles of seed starting, and it is intended for those from ages six to ten. Parents will need to accompany their child, and registration is on offer free of charge.
The participants will each have a chance to plant some seeds using the containers and other materials provided. They will learn how to care for the baby plants and eventually transplant them to a permanent home, and with some luck, they will be able to enjoy the fruits of their labors at harvest time. With it being an outdoor event, everyone is reminded to dress for the weather.
Teaching kids some of the basics of growing their own food can provide them with both knowledge of the natural world and a sense of accomplishment. Booklets and other materials for a learning session can be crafted by a local brochure printing company.
The Grow Your Own Veggie Garden workshop has been scheduled for June 17. It will be an evening activity, running from 5:00 until 6:00 pm, and its registration system is now open.
