Hunterdon Medical Center and the Raritan Township Fire Company (RTFC) will be joining forces to host an inmportant event for another year, and there are spots for 343 climbers to take on the challenge.
Nine years ago, Flemington hosted its first ever RTFC 9/11 Firefighters Stairclimb to honor the first responders who jumped into action on September 11, 2001.
Both first responders and the general public can participate in the climb, and the monies raised will be donated to the FEALGood Foundation. The number of stairs that will be climbed will be equivalent to the ones that the Fire Department of New York’s fire crews had to ascend before the towers collapsed, and it is suggested that anyone who plans on participating makes sure they are physically ready for the task they will be asked to perform.
The first responders who take on the challenge are encouraged to wear their turnout gear, and it is anticipated that the activity will take about one and a half hours to complete. Both drinks and light snacks will be supplied, and even if they do not take part themselves, the public can cheer the climbers on.
Anyone who registers for this annual event on or before August 20 will receive a T-shirt with a graphic design that has been prepared for the occasion. After that date, registrants will not be guaranteed that a shirt will be available for them.
Both solo and crew climb tickets are now available for the 2019 RTFC 9/11 Firefighter Stairclimb, which will be held on September 8. The fee to register starts at $25 each, and it will be taking place at 2100 Wescott Drive.
