A workshop is planned for Flemington that will give homeowners a chance to reduce their impact on the environment, and make a difference in the overall health of local waterways.
The Build A Rain Barrel workshop will give the public an opportunity to learn how to build one of these water-saving devices in their own yards. Instruction will be given on how to construct and install one, and also how to maintain it once it is in place.
It will collect runoff from the roof, which reduces the amount of pollution in streams and rivers. The water that is collected can be used to replenish gardens and lawns, which reduces the amount of consumption of this resource. Presentation Folders that have been filled with more information can be given to those who attend a class such as this, so that when they get home, they will be able to have it on hand should they need it.
The workshop, which is being offered through the cooperation of Rutgers Cooperative Extension and the North Jersey Resources Conservation and Development Council, is open to all those who live in Flemington Borough, Delaware, East Amwell, and Raritan Townships.
The class will be held on April 13, and those who would like to take part can register ahead of time, or find out further information, by visiting the New Jersey Water Supply Authority’s Watershed Protection Program’s website.
