Flemington area plans cardboard mini regatta

The pleasant days of late September will see a mini regatta take to the water near Flemington, and these little racers will be taking on a big fundraising project.

A new date has been set for the Cardboard Boat Race, which will raise money for projects undertaken by Clinton Sunrise Rotary. The volunteer service group organizes, funds and facilitates a variety of community service projects, and the activity will help fund their efforts.

Those who register for the friendly competition, will be constructing their craft from a combination of cardboard and duct Tape, and the vessels will take to the waters of the Raritan River in Clinton. The race will begin at Halsted Street Bridge, and everyone is welcome to participate.

Those who sign up will build their boat ahead of time and bring it along with them, and lifejackets and paddles will be supplied to allow everyone to race safely. A limited amount of cardboard will be available, and pick up can be arranged by calling 908-279-0112. The entry fee for each boat is $50.

When organizing a fundraiser, planners may find themselves tasked with choosing items to present as awards. A printing services company will be happy to help, and can supply a range of ideas.

The 2023 Clinton Sunrise Rotary Cardboard Boat Race will hit the water on Saturday, September 23. Its Patch listing provides additional details.
