Bakery cooks up a positive first year

A Flemington bakery that provides employment and training opportunities for adults with disabilities has reported a successful year, and is looking forward to the future.

The Greensleeves Village Bake Shop, which is located in Liberty Village Premium Outlets, opened last year and has already developed a clientele. According to Geralyn Lordi , who is the district manager for the project, the Thanksgiving and Christmas seasons were a big success, and that the plan is for the line of products that it offers to become even more extensive in the spring. If things go as expected, it will start to sell some items on a wholesale basis, and also create custom wedding cakes.

The shop is a venture of Allies, Inc., which is a New Jersey based group that provides support and opportunities for those living with a disability. It not only produces baked goods, but also uses locally sourced products whenever possible and provides a venue for local artisans to sell their works to the public.

Like many other small businesses, Greensleeves provides employment for those who work there and creates spinoff benefits for other companies as well. For example, a Stationery printing company can Print items like menu sheets, order Forms, receipt blanks, Business Cards, purchase order Forms and any other items that may be required to keep the company running smoothly on a day-to-day basis.
