The New Jersey Council of the Arts met in Flemington last month in the town’s historic Hunterdon Courthouse. It was the first time it has ever visited the town.
Artists, as well as representatives of arts groups and local government members, were on hand for the meeting. The Hunterdon County Cultural Heritage Committee was also present to meet the council.
Items discussed included funding for the local artistic community, as well as the positive impact that council funding has had on it. Attendees also heard about how the arts benefit the community as a whole. The monies received by the Cultural Heritage Commission will be used to provide not only financial support to artistic groups, but also education and community art projects.
The Commission also related that it will be moving the location of its headquarters into the historic Hunterdon Courthouse building, starting in the New Year. Once the commission is settled into its new location, it may wish to order new Letterheads and other printed items that feature their new address. It is estimated that the state’s funding creates 17,000 jobs and 37,000 cultural activities around the state.
