NJ represented on best hospital list

The U.S. News & World Report has published its 2025 finest facilities for Maternity Care list to assist parents in choosing the finest facilities to give birth in and 25 NJ hospitals made the list.

Only around half of the 817 hospitals that offered labor and delivery care—an all-time high—were chosen, according to U.S. News.

Twenty-five hospitals in New Jersey, including Englewood Hospital and two recognized as Maternity Care Access Hospitals, satisfied the requirements for the main list. The other list, which is in its second year, honors 118 facilities that provide prenatal and delivery care to pregnant parents who may not otherwise have had access.

The 2025 ranking is the most complete since the ratings started in 2021, according to a news release from Jennifer Winston, health data scientist for U.S. News & World Report. She went on to say:

“These high-performing hospitals showcase exceptional care for expectant parents, demonstrating significantly lower C-section rates and severe unexpected newborn complications compared to hospitals not recognized by U.S. News.”

The ranking is based only on objective quality metrics, including reporting on racial/ethnic inequalities, exclusive breastfeeding rates, serious unanticipated infant complications, C-section rates in low-risk pregnancies, and birthing-friendly procedures.
High-performing institutions often make the public aware of their achievements using banner printing or Mailing interested parties.

U.S. News reports that hospitals on the list had rates of serious unanticipated infant complications that are 44 percent lower than those of maternity care facilities that are not on the list.
