A concert celebrating Afro-Peruvian jazz will be held in Englewood this July, as Corina Bartra and the Afro-Peruvian Jazz New Trends Orchestra entertain.
It will feature Corina Bartra, renowned vocalist and acoustic awardee, as the main singer. Accompanying her will be a live instrumental set manned by outstanding musicians such as saxophonist Dave Morgan. Others within the orchestra include Steve Sandberg, who leads the ‘Steve Sandberg Quartet’, Sebastian de Urquiza on bass, Fabio Rojas on drums, Tony Romano playing the guitar, and Perico Diaz playing the Cajon.
Afro-Peruvian jazz refers to the unique blend of sounds from jazz, criollo songs, and traditional Peruvian music. From its origins in Peru, it has steadily gained popularity across the country as a way for Peruvians to celebrate their culture, and become celebrated in wider Latin America. Corina Bartra is among the pioneers of the genre.
