For everyone interested in building and maintaining a healthy body, home and planet, Sustainable Highland Park will be holding its annual Earth Day Celebration in just over a week.
This will be an opportunity for Highland Park residents to get out, enjoy the spring weather with family, neighbors, and friends, and enjoy a day of environmental and health education.
Adults can attend workshops on topics such as health issues, gardening, and raising chickens. A free taste of honey will be the draw for the workshop on beekeeping. The event will have lots of kid activities as well. Families can take a stroll along the new nature trail, and, as always, food will be available for purchase. It should be a good opportunity for picture taking for later postcard printing.
Live musical entertainment will be furnished first by local musician Brian Patrick Szura. Highland Park’s own Magnolia Street String Band will take to the stage at noon. The mostly bluegrass group (with a little country and folk thrown in) is composed of two guitars, a mandolin, bass, and banjo. Following The Magnolia Street String Band will be The Do Rights an hour and a half later, with their soul, funk, and dance music.
The celebration is scheduled for April 19, from 11:00 am to 3:00 pm at the Environmental Education Center, 20 River Road, Highland Park.
