The end of the year will again bring Spook Handy to town for the sixth time.
The folk artist will present his 6th Annual Holiday Concert for Highland Park families and friends of the local library. If this performance is anything like those presented the last five years, there will be standing room only, so attendees are advised to get there early.
Over the past year, Spook has been traveling around the United States presenting a musical tribute to his longtime friend and mentor, Pete Seeger. Spook plays his acoustic guitar and sings contemporary American folk music interspersed with stories of his friendship and performances with Mr. Seeger.
The entertainer will also be singing some songs he penned himself, including one entitled ‘Death Came Anyway’ which Seeger referred to as a ‘great’ song. Handy says he encourages everyone to sing. His performances include songs that are more than just the normal children’s songs, and he refers to his work as “music for all souls”.
No doubt the library will have a photographer on hand to take pictures of this event for 2015 brochure printers, with attendees likely to want to get a few snaps of their own too.
The performance is scheduled for 2:00 pm to 4:00 pm on December 30 at the Highland Park Public Library, 31 N 5th Ave, Highland Park.
