Special event revamped in Edison

An annual event in Edison will take on a different format this year.

The Buddy Walk of South Plainfield will no longer take the form of a walk in Putnam Park, but instead become a Gala Luncheon celebrating the event’s 20th year.

The Buddy Walk is now a national event. Devised by the National Down Syndrome Society in 1995 to celebrate October, which is Down Syndrome Awareness Month, the walks also seek to promote inclusion and acceptance of those with the syndrome. Today, the NDSS supports the walks nationwide, which are organized by schools, parent groups, and other individuals and organizations at the local level.

The Buddy Walk has expanded over its history, which began with 17 walks. This has now increased to an anticipated 330 walks in 2023, and the walks are held throughout the United States and the rest of the world. In 2022, an estimated 330,000 people took part. Through their efforts, over $14.2 million was raised to benefit local services and programs, in addition to the national efforts that benefit those with Down syndrome.

The Buddy Walk of South Plainfield - Gala luncheon is set for October 14, from 12.00pm until 4.00pm. The luncheon will take place at Pines Manor, located at 2085 Route 27 in Edison. Organizers of events like this can use banner printing to create appropriate decorations for the venue.
